●The inspiration behind its creation

The inspiration behind creating this tent was simply that I wanted to use it for bicycle touring.

Considering it would be carried on a bicycle, it naturally had to be lightweight and compact.

However, such lightweight tents (i.e., UL tents) are quite expensive, many are vulnerable to rain, and most require you to apply seam sealing yourself.


So, the first thing I thought was that I wanted to somehow lower that "high hurdle."

A tent that could be used right out of the box, was resistant to rain, and yet was reasonably priced.


The result was SUMO EQUIPMENT, an Indonesian tent manufacturer.

I immediately contacted a friend who runs SUMO's Japanese agency, decided on a base model, and modified it slightly to suit Japan's climate. This is the "HIROSHIMA 1P Shimanami Edition."

While I'll discuss the details on the following page, I can definitely say that it offers exceptional cost performance as a lightweight tent suitable for bicycle touring. More than anything, I wanted such a tent for myself, so I created it.

●Of course, for more than just bicycles

Of course, you're more than welcome to use it for regular camping, not just for cycling.

After all, it's super lightweight and packs down very small, so you'll be able to camp with more agility than ever before.


The photo below shows it stored "quite roughly" in the included stuff sack, assuming real-world use. In this state, the bag size is about 12cm x 30cm. That's probably about the same size as most handlebar bags.

This is with rough packing, so it can be made even more compact with compression, but it's still quite small in this state. It fits easily between narrow drop handlebars, so it's perfectly fine to just roughly tie it to your handlebars and go.

●A UL tent that can be "used with peace of mind" even in the rain

Born in the tropical climate of Indonesia, the HIROSHIMA 1P is one of the few UL tents that can be used with peace of mind even in the rain.

If you've ever experienced rain unexpectedly, with splashed rain and mud from the ground passing through the inner mesh and making the inside messy, you'll surely appreciate this tent.

There are too many features to list, but one point I personally want to emphasize is

"Ease of entry and exit (and kindness to your back)."

The main pole is slightly off-center, and instead, there's a sub-pole at the foot end. This unique shape is the biggest design feature of this tent.

It makes entry and exit, and cooking in the vestibule while seated, very comfortable as the pole doesn't get in the way. You don't have to awkwardly "heave-ho" while avoiding a center pole, which is a great benefit for anyone with back pain.


Additionally, with its independent inner, double-wall structure, condensation is less likely, and it can even be set up with just the fly.

By inserting the sub-pole at the foot end, the interior space becomes wider, allowing even taller individuals to spend time without stress.

●Lightness

The HIOROSHIMA 1P, with the fly and inner weighing approximately 603g, is among the lightest solo tents.

※The above weight is for the fly + inner only, and does not include accessories such as the stuff sack, included pegs, or sub-poles. Based on my measurements, if you use the included accessories as they are, the total weight will be approximately 780g.

※The key point here is that this figure *includes* the pegs. The only significant weight not included is the main pole, but even with that, it easily comes in under 1kg. Typically, no manufacturer includes the weight of pegs, so the HIROSHIMA is under 1kg even with them included.


It's exceptionally light for a tent with a separate flysheet and inner tent, and the secret lies in the 15D lightweight material and the efficient sewing due to its simple structure. Of course, areas requiring strength are thoroughly reinforced with different materials.

It's perfect for bike camping, motorcycle touring, backpacking, and solo camping where you want to keep your gear light.

●"Quarter Mesh" instead of "Half Mesh"

This was a point I specifically customized. Traditionally, "half mesh" with half mesh area and half panel area was standard, but I changed this to "quarter mesh" to suit Japan's climate.

This quarter mesh, if I may say so myself, is exquisite, addressing:

・Preventing splashes of rain and mud
・Preventing condensation drips from the fly
・Preventing sideways wind entry
・Ensuring privacy

Yet, it's set at the absolute minimum height to ensure ventilation.

It provides private space while ensuring the breathability of the mesh inner.
The mesh is adjusted to a height where it's not visible even when lying down with the fly sheet open.
When you sit up, you can still see outside, so it doesn't compromise your sense of security while sleeping.

・Equipped with magnetic door closure

Magnets are used instead of Velcro for opening and closing the entrance.
This makes it easier to enter and exit without the zipper getting in the way when opening and closing it,
and reduces damage to the fabric that occurs when opening and closing Velcro.
It reduces stress when entering and exiting, allowing you to spend your time comfortably.

・YKK Zipper #3 adopted

YKK products are used for the zippers, which can be a cause of failure.
This ensures safe, secure, and smooth opening and closing.

・Seam-sealed and ready to use

It comes seam-sealed at the time of shipment, so there's no need for tedious work.
It's treated for excellent durability, so you can use it with peace of mind.
